RadioBOSS Setup

Before you start

You'll need your Stream Info notecard, delivered in-world when you rented your plan. The fields you'll copy from it are HOST/IP, PORT, and PASSWORD. (If you're a live DJ connecting to someone else's AUTO-DJ station, use the credentials they gave you instead.)

Three things go wrong more often than anything else:

  1. Extra spaces from copy/paste. Double-click the value to select it cleanly. If you drag to select, you can grab a leading or trailing space without seeing it, and the connection silently fails.
  2. HOST/IP format. Use the address exactly as written, just live.xxx.lightmanstreams.com. Don't add http:// in front, don't add :PORT at the end (the port goes in its own field), and don't paste the in-world Land URL.
  3. Password length. S Plan and M Plan passwords are always 6 characters. L Plan passwords are always 8 characters. AUTO-DJ live DJ passwords have no fixed length. If your S or L Plan password doesn't match the expected length, you grabbed the wrong line from the notecard.

⚠️ S Plan users: Set bitrate to 192 kbps. Anything higher will fail to connect.

⚠️ Station Name is required. SHOUTcast rejects connections that don't send a name. In RadioBOSS, this is the Station Name field on the Station Info tab. Set it now and you avoid the most common cause of "won't connect".

💡 Use the Configuration Wizard. RadioBOSS has a wizard that walks you through the connection setup field-by-field. It's less error-prone than filling in the tabs by hand. This guide uses the wizard.

1. Open Settings

In the RadioBOSS toolbar, click the gear icon (Settings) at the right end.

Step 1 RadioBOSS toolbar with the gear (Settings) icon highlighted

2. Open the encoder settings

In the Settings window, select Broadcast in the left column. You'll see a list of encoders. Click the encoder you want to configure (or create a new one), then open its Connection tab.

Step 2 RadioBOSS encoder Settings with the Connection tab visible and Configuration Wizard button highlighted

3. Run the Configuration Wizard

On the Connection tab, click the Configuration Wizard button (next to the Server field).

The wizard will ask you to pick a server type. Choose SHOUTcast v2.

Step 3 RadioBOSS Encoder Wizard server type selection with SHOUTcast v2 selected

Click Next, then fill in the connection fields:

  • Server address: paste the HOST/IP from your notecard
  • Port: paste the PORT from your notecard
  • Username (optional): source
  • Password: paste the PASSWORD from your notecard (passwords are case-sensitive)
  • Stream ID (SID): 1
Step 3 RadioBOSS Encoder Wizard with Server address, Port, Username (source), Password, and SID (1) filled in

Click Finish.

4. Verify the encoder settings

Back on the Connection tab, the wizard will have filled in the fields. Confirm:

  • Server: shows live.xxx.lightmanstreams.com:PORT (the format with port appended is normal here, the wizard sets it correctly)
  • Password: the dots match the length of your notecard password
  • Encoder: MP3
  • Bitrate (kbps): 320 (or 192 for S Plan)
  • Sample rate: 44100
  • Channels: stereo
  • Public (directory): unticked (or ticked, see Listing Status: Private for the difference)
  • Encoder display name (optional): give it a name you'll recognize, useful if you set up multiple encoders later
Step 4 RadioBOSS Connection tab after wizard completion with all fields populated correctly

5. Fill in Station Info

Click the Station Info tab.

  • Station Name: type any name (required, see warning above)
  • Genre, Description, URL: optional
Step 5 RadioBOSS encoder Station Info tab with Station Name highlighted

Click OK to save the encoder.

6. Start broadcasting

Back in the main RadioBOSS window, click the Broadcast button (or the encoder's Start button in the Broadcast panel) to start sending audio.

Step 6 RadioBOSS main window with the Broadcast button highlighted
